* The figures do not include coal severance taxes paid since 1988 by Westmoreland Resources Inc. on coal owned by the Crow Tribe.  WRI pays coal severance tax and gross proceeds tax directly to the Crow Tribe and not to the state of


Montana or the county.

The Montana Coal Board of the Montana Department of Commerce disburses coal impact grant funds to impacted coal counties. In fiscal year 2003/2004, $1.4 million was appropriated for grant dollars from the coal severance tax.
